About Section

The Ethereal Elixir takes place on the main continent of Ettherra, which has been governed by three major countries for over a millenia and only recently in the past few centuries has a fourth one emerged, off of the main continent.

Each of the four countries has their own unique identities and rules to which they are governed by. The land is indeed incredibly diverse, though this diversity has sparked many tensions and wars between the three main kingdoms, though the current times is of peace and war has not been ignited again for the past three hundred years. However, tensions are still put to the test from time to time. The four main kingdoms are the: Masirean, Kior, Ceareste and Malodia.

Regardless of the differences that these kingdoms may have with one another, Ettherra is held together by the World Tree, Yggdrasil. The tree is the source of any and all life within the land, and keeps the planet held together. It is what allowed the recycling of souls after their deaths so they may be reincarnated as new beings with entirely new lives and purpose. Yggdrasil is what creates Ethereal; the life force that all things are made out of, for anything without Ethereal, including souls, ceases to be alive. Because of this power, the World Tree is the single deity within the realm, as Yggdrasil's roots go through the planet's soil, sometimes even popping out of the ground and becoming visible here and there throughout the continent to easily spread ethereal onto the surface; forever reminding the residents of its realm of its presence as the tree itself rests in the core of the planet; effectively, the heart of everything that exists.

While the Kingdoms may disagree from time to time, they all agree that Yggdrasil is something that should be protected and not tampered with. As such, the grounds of Yggdrasil has been governed by a completely neutral party, one away from any wars or the ability to stake claim to the land, even if one country's land technically overlaps the entrance to its shrine. A council, created and funded by all four kingdoms exists to oversee the tree's protection.

Each kingdom follows an the age-old tradition of having a King and a Queen, with the oldest Prince or Princess being the next heir to the throne once the King or Queen have passed. While some countries' definition of "King" and "Queen" may have variances from each other, they generally follow the rule of thumb that there is a royal family which has lead their respective kingdoms for generations.
Each kingdom has a powerful jewel each, dubbed "Royal Jewels" to which they give their next-of-kin to safeguard them from any potential danger. Though this was primarily used at times of war to ensure the safety of the family's blood line, as well as be used as a last resort during invasions. These jewels have enough power to single-handedly wipe out many opponents if used correctly independent to the power of its user, and each child is taught how to use it to defend themselves from harm at quite a young age. It also serves as the symbol of status that the child is to be the next leader.

The exception to this is Masirean, the most recent kingdom, founded and becoming the fourth kingdom after a merchant centuries ago found the "fourth royal jewel". Rather than give kingship to the next-of-kin, Masirean chooses to elect their Kings instead. As such, the King or Queen always has the royal jewel, regardless of kin. Though sometimes the "Prince" may be elected as King, this has not always been the case.
